Engaging Zoology Lessons for Kids Who Love Animals

Hi, I'm Suzie! I am excited to offer hands-on zoology classes and social groups to animal-loving homeschoolers in Mid-City/Central San Diego.
I am an experienced wildlife care specialist and zoo educator skilled in leading classroom programs, youth camps, behind-the-scenes tours, science co-ops and community outreach.
As a 10-year veteran homeschooling parent, I share a deep passion for our homeschooling community & proudly help moderate the Pacific Coast Academy Parents Only group.
I look forward to connecting with students who love animals just as much as I do!

Zoology
TK–2nd Grade - Built to Survive: Examining natural armor like turtle shells, claws and beetle carapaces, then designing simple protective tools inspired by animal bodies (e.g., 1-LS1-1).
3rd–5th Grade - Internal & External Structures: Comparing skulls, teeth and biofacts of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores to see how jaw design reveals an animal’s place in the food web (e.g., 4-LS1-1).
Marine Biology
TK–2nd Grade - Coastal & Deep Sea Life: Comparing tide pool creatures to open-ocean animals using urchin tests, shark teeth and kelp to see how ocean life adapts to different watery homes (e.g., 2-LS4-1).
3rd–5th Grade - Ocean Food Webs: Building interactive web models from tiny plankton to apex predators like sea otters and whales to explore how energy moves through marine ecosystems (e.g., 5-LS2-1).
Animal Math (TK–2nd Grade)
TK–2nd Grade - Track Counts & Animal Measurement: Using footprint stamps and track cards to count toes, measure stride lengths and solve real-world animal math stories (e.g., K.CC.B.4, 1.OA.A.1).
Animal Careers (3rd–5th Grade)
3rd–5th Grade - Habitat Design & Conservation: Stepping into the shoes of a zoo designer or field biologist to build scaled 3D enclosure models that balance animal care, shelter, and visitor safety (e.g., 3-5-ETS1-1).
Animal Detectives (1st–5th Grade)
1st–5th Grade - Field Clues & Nature Sleuthing: Inspecting animal clues like fur, shed skins, track molds, and chew marks on bark to piece together which creatures visited an ecosystem (e.g., 1-LS1-1, 4-ESS3-2).
Story, Senses & Play (TK–2nd Grade)
TK–2nd Grade - Sensory Adaptations & Storytelling: Pairing interactive nature stories with hands-on sensory stations where kids explore night vision, animal textures, and super hearing (e.g., K-LS1-1, 1-LS1-2).
Movement, Outdoor Games & Play (3rd–5th Grade)
3rd–5th Grade - Adaptation Games & Survival Mechanics: Playing outdoor active games that simulate predator-prey chases, camouflage tag and herd maneuvers to experience how animal traits help them survive (e.g., 3-LS4-2).
Zoo Crew: Observation, Photography & Art (TK–5th Grade)
TK–5th Grade - Field Naturalists & Scientific Illustration: Equipping kids with clipboards, viewfinders, and magnifying lenses to log animal behaviors and create detailed scientific sketches (e.g., 3-LS4-3, VA:Cr1.1).

The same goes if someone in your household is currently sick or if your child was recently exposed to a contagious illness, even if they feel fine.
If a child starts feeling unwell during class, we’ll contact you right away for pickup. While class fees are non-refundable, we’re happy to offer makeup sessions for illness-related absences so your child won't miss out.
